Conner Capel - Sits against lefty again
Capel is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels.
Impact
The lefty-hitting Capel was included in the Opening Day lineup while the Athletics opposed right-handed Shohei Ohtani, but he'll sit for the second day in a row with the Angels bringing another lefty (Tyler Anderson) to the hill. Seth Brown, Esteury Ruiz and Ramon Laureano will form Oakland's outfield from left to right, while Brent Rooker serves as the Athletics' designated hitter.

Jace Peterson - Sits again Sunday
Peterson is not in the lineup again for Sunday's game against the Angels.
Impact
Peterson sits for the second consecutive game with Aledmys Diaz hitting second and playing third while Nick Allen gets the start at shortstop and hits ninth. It appears the A's will have Peterson sit against southpaws in the early portion of the season, which limits an early meager fantasy outlook for the 2023 campaign.

Adam Oller - Heavy workload in long relief
Oller (illness) allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits and two walks over 4.2 innings of relief in a loss to the Angels on Saturday. He also uncorked a wild pitch and recorded...
Impact
Oller had been in contention with JP Sears for the final spot in the rotation to open the season, and based on the former's deployment out of the bullpen Saturday, it's seems evident he lost out on the competition. Nevertheless, Oller essentially put in a starting pitcher's workload thanks to Shintaro Fujinami's nightmarish MLB debut that saw him get chased after just 2.1 innings. Oller gave up his fair share of runs as well, but he was able to gobble up some key innings and preserve the arms of several bullpen mates. He'll likely remain ticketed for multi-inning, low-leverage relief assignments for the time being.

Ramón Laureano - Blasts first homer of season
Laureano went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Saturday's loss to the Angels.
Impact
Oakland was trailing 11-0 by the time Laureano put the team on the board with his solo shot in the fifth inning, so the impact of the long ball was much more pronounced for fantasy managers than for the outcome of the game. The homer is to this point Laureano's lone hit this season, as he's gone 1-for-7 with four strikeouts over his first two games.

Shintaro Fujinami - Pummeled in big-league debut
Fujinami (0-1) took the loss against the Angels on Saturday, allowing eight runs on five hits and three walks while striking out four batters over 2.1 innings.
Impact
After 10 years pitching in Japan with Nippon Professional Baseball's Hanshin Tigers, Fujinami signed on with the Athletics in January. This probably wasn't how he envisioned his first major-league start going, as the Angels chased him after just 2.1 frames. The right-hander actually looked great over his first two innings, striking out four batters without allowing a baserunner. Things completely unraveled for him in the third, however, as Los Angeles put eight of the first nine batters on base, with the only out being recorded on a sacrifice fly. Fujinami will look for much better results the next time he takes the mound, which is tentatively scheduled to be next Saturday in Tampa.

Conner Capel - Sitting Saturday
Capel will hit the bench for Saturday's game against the Angels.
Impact
Capel hit second and served as the designated hitter against righty Shohei Ohtani on Opening Day, going 0-for-3 with a pair of strikeouts. He was replaced by Brent Rooker with lefty Aaron Loup on the mound in the eighth inning, and it will be Rooker who gets the start Saturday against southpaw Patrick Sandoval. Early indications point towards a platoon between the pair.

Peterson will sit Saturday against the Angels.
Impact
Peterson started at third base in the season opener and hit seventh. He went hitless in three at-bats. He'll sit Saturday against southpaw Patrick Sandoval, with Aledmys Diaz sliding to third base and Nick Allen taking Diaz's spot at shortstop.

Esteury Ruiz - Makes impact in opener
Ruiz went 1-for-3 with a run in the Athletics' win over the Angels on Thursday.
Impact
The speedy outfielder hit out of the bottom of the order, but his leadoff single off Aaron Loup in the eighth inning kick-started a two-run rally. Ruiz subsequently came around to score the tying run on Tony Kemp's double, making it an auspicious regular-season debut for a player that could well outperform his season-opening slot in the lineup if the .974 OPS he generated at the Double-A and Triple-A levels last season -- and his subsequent torrid Cactus League performance -- is any indication.

Tony Kemp - Delivers key double in win
Kemp went 1-for-3 with an RBI double, a walk and a run in the Athletics' win over the Angels on Thursday.
Impact
Kemp operated out of the leadoff spot and ignited an eighth-inning rally with a double into the left-center gap that brought home Esteury Ruiz with the tying run. The veteran subsequently scored what would prove to be the winning run on Aledmys Diaz's single, capping off what was an encouraging start to the campaign for Kemp following a spring in which he hit a middling .233 across 53 plate appearances.

Aledmys Díaz - Key knock in season-opening win
Diaz went 2-for-3 with a go-ahead RBI single and a walk in the Athletics' win over the Angels on Thursday.
Impact
Diaz and Seth Brown were the only two players with multiple hits for the Athletics in the pitchers' duel, and the former got on a team-high three times overall. Diaz's eighth-inning single snapped a 1-1 tie, plating Tony Kemp with what turned out to be the winning run. The veteran drew the start at shortstop Thursday, but he's projected to see time at second base and third base as well over the course of the season.

Seth Brown - Productive in opener
Brown went 2-for-4 with a double and a stolen base in the Athletics' win over the Angels on Thursday.
Impact
Brown contributed one of two multi-hit efforts for the Athletics on the night, and he was responsible for the lone extra-base hit off Angels ace Shohei Ohtani. The stolen base was a nice season-opening bonus for fantasy managers and an encouraging early indicator Brown may run enough to exceed the career-high 11 swipes he logged in 2022.

Trevor May - Records victory in opener
May (1-0) was credited with the victory in Thursday's season-opening win over the Angels, allowing a hit and a walk while recording a strikeout.
Impact
May took the ball after back-to-back scoreless frames from Zach Jackson and Domingo Acevedo, and he worked himself into a bit of trouble by allowing an infield single and then intentionally putting on Shohei Ohtani. However, May earned his way out of the jam by striking out Anthony Rendon swinging, and he was rewarded for his efforts when the Athletics took the lead with a two-run eighth. The right-hander is likely to be deployed in similar seventh- and eighth-inning situations throughout the season, which should give him a solid chance at holds and the occasional decision.

Dany Jiménez - Secures save in season opener
Jimenez earned a save against the Angels on Thursday, pitching a scoreless ninth inning during which he allowed one walk and struck out one batter.
Impact
Oakland's closer situation has been hazy throughout the spring, but it may have gained some clarity on Opening Day. With the A's trailing by a run heading into the eighth inning, manager Mark Kotsay turned to Trevor May, and after the team took the lead in the bottom of the frame, Jimenez was called upon to close things out in the ninth. The right-hander responded well to the situation, working around a one-out walk to shut the door. It would be premature to declare Jimenez a full-time closer, but he could be the most frequent recipient of save opportunities for Oakland given his success Thursday and the 11 saves he recorded last season.
