The Oakland Athletics and slugger Jesús Aguilar have agreed to a $3 million, one-year contract

James Kaprielian - On track for spring Kaprielian (shoulder) is expected to be ready for the start of spring training, Athletics general manager David Forst told Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle on Friday.

Impact The question on Kaprielian's status came in relation to the A's recent trade of Cole Irvin to the Orioles. That move was quite clearly a salary dump, but Oakland does have the depth to deliver a respectable Opening Day rotation if there are no setbacks on the health front. Kaprielian is said to be moving in the right direction in his recovery from offseason surgery to repair the AC joint in his throwing shoulder.

Jesús Aguilar - Expected to play every day Aguilar is expected to receive everyday playing time between first base and designated hitter, Athletics general manager David Forst told Martin Gallegos of MLB.com on Friday.

Impact Forst was speaking to reporters after the A's made their one-year, $3 million contract with Aguilar official. The 32-year-old put up just a .661 OPS over 129 games for the Marlins and Orioles last season, but it's not a surprise to hear the plan is to play him regularly in 2023 given the state of Oakland's roster. Still, it's difficult to imagine Aguilar will have much fantasy utility outside of deep leagues. With Aguilar around, Seth Brown figures to play the outfield more, assuming he's not traded.

Darell Hernaiz - Sent to Oakland Hernaiz and minor-league pitcher Kyle Virbitsky were traded from the Orioles to the Athletics on Thursday in exchange for left-hander Cole Irvin, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

Impact Hernaiz was one of Baltimore's top prospects and headlines the return for Irvin, who should slot in near the top of the rotation. Hernaiz opened the 2022 campaign at the Single-A level but finished the year with a brief run at Double-A. The 21-year-old had a .273/.341/.438 slash line with 12 home runs and 32 stolen bases across the three levels, and he could make his way to Triple-A at some point in 2023 for Oakland.

Jesús Aguilar - Signing deal with A's Aguilar is set to sign a contract with the Athletics, according to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.

Impact It's a one-year, $3 million deal, adds USA Today's Bob Nightengale. Aguilar largely struggled at the dish for both the Marlins and Orioles in 2022, ultimately finishing with a .235/.281/.379 slash line over 507 plate appearances. The 32-year-old first baseman/DH has some pop left in his bat, however, and appears to have picked the right spot in Oakland to maximize his potential for playing time in 2023.
