Jordan Diaz - Takes seat Tuesday Diaz is out of the starting lineup for Tuesday's series opener against the Mariners, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Impact Diaz has seen consistent playing time since being brought up from Triple-A Las Vegas, but he'll begin Tuesday's contest against Bryce Miller and the Mariner on the bench. Tony Kemp is playing second base and hitting eighth while Jace Peterson hits fifth and plays third.

Aledmys Díaz - Placed on 10-day IL Oakland placed Diaz (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list Tuesday.
Impact There was talk that DIaz may not need to be placed on the injured list when the infielder was diagnosed with just a Grade 1 left hamstring strain, but the Athletics have decided not to play shorthanded for the next week or so. Nick Allen is recalled in Diaz's place, and he should see a good amount of reps at shortstop now that he's back from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Nick Allen - Recalled from Triple-A Oakland recalled Allen from Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Impact Allen comes up to replace Aledmys Diaz after Diaz was placed on the 10-day injured list. In 17 plate appearances with Oakland prior to being demoted to Triple-A, Allen hit just .063, but he performed well in his time with Las Vegas and should see plenty of reps at shortstop with Diaz on the shelf.

Cody Thomas - Running hot at Triple-A Thomas sports a .317 average and 1.020 OPS across 117 plate appearances over 25 games at Triple-A Las Vegas.
Impact The 28-year-old outfielder finally got a taste of the big leagues in 2022 when he was up for 10 games with the Athletics, and he put together a solid .267 average across 32 plate appearances. Thomas is off the 40-man roster for the moment, but his robust numbers with the Aviators -- he also has nine doubles, two triples, seven home runs and 33 RBI alongside a palatable 18.8 percent strikeout rate -- could well earn him a promotion for the rebuilding A's at some point this summer.

Drew Rucinski - Awarded another start Rucinski is scheduled to start Thursday's game against the Mariners at Oakland Coliseum, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
Impact After returning last week from a season-opening stint on the 15-day injured list, Rucinski stepped into the rotation for his Oakland debut and his first MLB appearance since 2018. Though Rucinski gave the team 5.2 innings in his start against the Reds, he was lit up for five runs (three earned) on 11 hits and one walk while striking out one. Rucinski's results weren't anything to get excited about, but the one-year, $3 million deal he received over the winter after spending the previous four seasons pitching in the Korea Baseball Organization represents some level of commitment from the penny-pinching Athletics. Expect the 34-year-old to continue picking up starts, especially while the Athletics are lacking in appealing alternatives to replace him in the rotation.

Tyler Wade - Outrighted to minors The Athletics outrighted Wade to Triple-A Las Vegas on Monday.
Impact He'll remain in the organization after he went unclaimed off waivers upon being designated for assignment over the weekend. During his two-week stint in the big leagues, Wade contributed four stolen bases but went just 1-for-13 at the plate.

Ramón Laureano - Hitting well since IL return Laureano (groin), activated from the injured list Saturday, went 3-for-7 with a double, a hit-by-pitch and a run over his first two games back in action during the weekend series a...
Impact Laureano also played a full nine innings in right field during both contests, further corroborating his return to full health. The 28-year-old has put together an encouraging start at the plate after posting a career-low .211 average, .287 on-base percentage and .663 OPS in 2022, as his weekend production pushed his season slash line to a respectable .242/.319/.452 across 69 plate appearances.

JJ Bleday - Making waves in Vegas Bleday is slashing .316/.429/.643 with 16 extra-base hits and 19 RBI across 119 plate appearances over 25 games with Triple-A Las Vegas.
Impact Bleday displayed some impressive pop while also generating a bloated 28.2 percent strikeout rate during his first taste of the big leagues in 2022 with the Marlins, as he laced 17 of his 34 hits for extra bases. The slugging outfielder is back at it in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League early this minor-league season after coming over in the A.J. Puk trade this offseason; given the Athletics' willingness to evaluate prospects during what's already shaping up as a lost season, he's a virtual certainty for a promotion at some point this summer, if not sooner.

Manny Piña - Another homer in Vegas Pina (wrist) went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Triple-A Las Vegas' loss to Tacoma on Sunday.
Impact Pina's torrid pace at the plate during his rehab assignment continued with Sunday's timely homer, his second during his time with the Aviators and third overall during his rehab assignment. The veteran his hitting .368 overall during six rehab games and could well be deemed ready for activation before Oakland begins a three-game series against the Mariners on Tuesday.
MAY 1, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Zach Jackson - Gets second win Sunday Jackson (2-1) got the win against the Reds on Sunday, firing a scoreless ninth inning during which he allowed two hits and recorded two strikeouts.
Impact Jackson labored some to preserve the 4-4 tie he'd entered the game under, allowing a single and double to Kevin Newman and Spencer Steer to open the frame. However, he powered himself out of trouble with swinging strikeouts of Jonathan India and Tyler Stephenson before inducing an inning-ending groundout from Henry Ramos. Jackson was then rewarded with his resiliency via Esteury Ruiz's game-winning single in the home half of the ninth, giving him both his 2023 wins in addition to his first hold in the last four appearances.
MAY 1, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Jesús Aguilar - Launches fifth homer Aguilar went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in a win over the Reds on Sunday.
Impact Aguilar's first-inning 428-foot blast to left center scored Brent Rooker to give the Athletics an early 2-0 lead. The veteran pushed his season slash line to an impressive .270/.321/.500 with his multi-hit effort, already his sixth such tally of the campaign.

MLB Power Rankings: How good are the Orioles? How bad are the Cardinals?
Brent Rooker - Goes deep again Rooker went 2-for-2 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored in Sunday's win against the Reds.
Impact Rooker took Nick Lodolo deep in the fourth inning of Sunday's contest, giving him nine long balls this season. After the homer, Rooker brought in a run with a sacrifice fly and was also hit by a pitch. Over his last seven games, he's belted five home runs while hitting .384 (10-for-26). The breakout slugger is now slashing .353/.465/.779 with 22 RBI and a 14:16 BB:K through 22 games.
MAY 1, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Ken Waldichuk - Punches out seven Waldichuk allowed three runs on six hits and a walk over 5.2 innings in Sunday's win against the Reds. He struck out seven and did not factor in the decision.
Impact Waldichuk set a new season high with his seven punchouts and it's the second-best total of his MLB career. He gave up a solo home run to Nick Senzel in the second inning before getting charged with two more runs in the sixth. Waldichuk's ERA fell slightly to 7.26 with a 25:12 K:BB through six starts this season. His next outing is projected to be in Kansas City next week.

Aledmys Díaz - May not need IL after all Diaz was diagnosed with a Grade 1 left hamstring strain after undergoing an MRI on Sunday and could avoid a stint on the injured list, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Impact After Diaz was forced out of Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Reds with the hamstring issue, manager Mark Kotsay suggested the 32-year-old would require a trip to the IL, but the better-than-expected MRI results have instead prompted the Athletics to view Diaz as day-to-day. An IL stint could still be in the forecast for Diaz, but the Athletics will wait and see how he's feeling following Monday's off day before making a decision on his status one way or the other.
APRIL 30, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Tony Kemp - Out of lineup vs. lefty Kemp is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds.
Impact The 31-year-old was on the bench Saturday with righty Hunter Greene on the mound for Cincinnati, and the second baseman is sitting again Sunday against lefty Nick Lodolo. Kemp has gone 4-for-40 across his past 12 contests, and his playing time could dwindle further without a turnaround soon. Jordan Diaz will man the keystone in his place Sunday.
APRIL 30, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Ryan Noda - Not starting versus southpaw Noda is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds.
Impact Noda went 0-for-5 with four strikeouts Saturday and will take a seat Sunday with lefty Nick Lodolo on the mound for Cincinnati. Jesus Aguilar will start at first base while Carlos Perez bats fifth as the designated hitter.

Nick Allen - Likely candidate for call-up Allen, who owns a .333 average and .934 OPS across 12 games at Triple-A Las Vegas since being optioned April 14, is a likely candidate to be recalled should Aledmys Diaz (hamstring...
Impact Diaz exited Saturday's loss to the Reds with a left hamstring injury that manager Mark Kotsay labeled as likely serious enough to require an IL stint in his postgame remarks. Allen spent eight games with the Athletics to open the season and limped to an .063 average across 17 plate appearances, and he recorded 13 doubles and four home runs during his initial 100-game big-league stint last season, albeit as part of an unappealing .207/.256/.291 slash line.
APRIL 30, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Aledmys Díaz - IL stint expected Diaz, who exited Saturday's game against the Reds with a hamstring injury, is likely to require a stint on the injured list per manager Mark Kotsay, the team's official site report...
Impact The veteran was replaced by pinch runner Kevin Smith at third base in the second inning, apparently having initially hurt himself when diving for a hard grounder by the Reds' Tyler Stephenson in the top of the frame. Kotsay noted Diaz is due for further evaluation Sunday, but given the nature of soft-tissue injuries, the expectation is that some time off will be in order. Nick Allen, who was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas on April 14, is expected to be in line for a return to the big-league club if Diaz's IL stint indeed comes to fruition.
