Derek Jeter’s women through the years — a real Ladykillers’ Row

As we commemorate the latest milestone in the life of Derek Jeter (the Yankees captain turns 40 on Thursday), we also take a stroll through the future Hall of Famer's perhaps most eye-popping list. No, not the Cy Young winners he has taken deep, nor the near-3,400 hits he has compiled in his career. And his World Series rings? We'll save those for the Sabermetricians and Cooperstown voters. We're talking about the list of women to whom Manhattan's most eligible athlete has been connected (yeah, we'd pump our fist if we were celebrating a World Series win with Minka Kelly, too). The famed pop star is believed to be the Captain's first celebrity hook-up. The two reportedly met at a benefit in late 1996, when Jeter was 22 and Carey 26 (and while she was married to music mogul Tommy Mottola). The two denied they were more than just friends at the time, but the singer would years later fess up to the romance, which reportedly stretched into 1998.

Dating a pop star? An All-Star player. Dating Miss Universe? A Hall of Famer, indeed. The Indian-born Dutta had quite the 2000, being crowned Miss Universe and hooking up with Jeter, reportedly for a year-long romance. The Miss Universe thing launched Dutta's Bollywood career. Dating Jeter got her on this list.

It is 2001 and Jeter is an All-Star, a cemented superstar, and a four-time World Series winner. He's a seasoned veteran in his mid-20s, and his experience and savvy are really showing. After dating Mariah Carey and a future acting star, he cuddles up with an actress who was singing back-up to Carey. Enriquez at the time was trying to make a name in TV (with a bit role on '7th Heaven') and the Carey back-up gig. Oh, and Jeter and Enriquez were introduced at the 2001 All-Star Game, where Enriquez was a guest of . . . then-Ranger / future Yankee teammate Alex Rodriguez. Seriously, you can't make this up.

Fast and Furious? At this point, clearly. We're barely into 2002 and Jeter has moved on to the actress whose most famous character is Mia from the 'Fast and the Furious' franchise. Like the Jeter-Enriquez tryst, this one between the actress and the ball player is indeed fast (not sure about the furious, though), reportedly lasting well under a year, one of Jeter's shortest relationships.

Another pageant winner. Another budding actress. But this one, was different. Minnillo had enjoyed her own taste of fame, being crowned Miss Teen USA in 1998 (the same year Jeter made his first All-Star team and won his second championship). Five years later, Minnillo and Jeter are pictured together courtside at a Knicks game. Indeed, this is different, as the two stay together into 2005, and are seen out together regularly. Reports are, however, that the relationship ends when Jeter grows uncomfortable with the increased publicity of the relationship and Minnillo's growing public image. Her consolation prize? She goes on to marry Nick Lachey.

Whoa! Talk about moving up to the big leagues. Not since his initial fling with Mariah Carey has Jeter swung for the fences this aggressively. It's the summer of 2004, and the pair are rumored to be seeing each other while Jeter is on a, um . . . short stop . . . from dating Minnillo. The relationship is brief, as are any substantiations on the seriousness of the affair.

OK, OK. You win, Jeter. We get it. Apparently 2004 was a very good year for DJ. Sure, it was more than three years since the Yankees last won a title. But while he wasn't out with Vanessa Minnillo, he was rumored to be spending time with Jessica Alba. Or seen out and about with Johansson. Like some of the other relationships, neither side confirmed the relationship. But they were seen out together plenty, and let's just say Jeter doesn't have the reputation as one of those guy friends that mega-hot, mega-famous celebrities like to bring along on shopping trips.

Throughout his career, Jeter has been a much better second-half hitter (sporting a career .299 batting average before July 1, .323 after). So perhaps it should not be so surprising that Jeter took longer than one would expect to hook up with a famous Victoria Secret model. But in 2006, the two reportedly did hook up . . . and even appeared in the same photos together. Lucky lady. While she didn't end up with Jeter, she must have liked dating an athlete. She married former NBA player Marko Jaric in 2009 and had two daughters with him before separating in 2014.

Hey, if you can date one Victoria's Secret Angel, why on earth wouldn't you date two? A year after Jeter and Lima did New York, the Pinstriper reportedly turned to perhaps the most famous Angel of them all in Banks. The relationship was reportedly in 2007, and reportedly brief. And in typical Jeter fashion, neither side ever confirmed.

Like some others on this list, Jeter's tango with the Cuban-born model was never confirmed. Their relationship never made official, but briefly in 2005 the two were reportedly 'seeing' eachother. Since a spread in FHM in 2002, Guerra's voluptuous figure has been featured in many magazines and music videos including Nelly's 'Shake Ya Tailfeather' and Kanye West's 'The New Workout Plan.' 

Jeez. Jeter nabbed another top-shelf movie star in Jessica Biel in late 2006. The starlet got her start on the TV show '7th Heaven' and has been a staple on the big screen ever since. The relationship was short-lived as the two were seen clubbing at night and sunbathing during the day in early 2007 - and that was about all. It wasn't too long after that when Biel met another hot-shot in Justin Timberlake and got married. Oh, what could have been.

Rumor is that Jeter rebounded from his break up with Biel and started seeing actress Gabrielle Union. Union was fresh off a split from her husband at the time, NFL running back Chris Howard, and though the two were reportedly seen canoodling in the Bahamas, Union denied that they were hooking up.  She came clean to PEOPLE magazine in 2007 saying "I'm linked to a lot of people. Trust me, if I were dating Derek Jeter, i would hold my own press conference to announce it to the world." She couldn't lock down Jeets, but she did just get engaged to Dwyane Wade.

This one seemed like 'the one.' Lasting roughly three years, the 'Friday Night Lights' actress dated Jeter from 2008-11. She was there for the 2009 World Series championship season. And seemingly the entire world was rooting for the couple. But apparently not even the "sexiest woman alive" could satisfy the Captain. Though there are rumors swirling that they may be rekindling their romance.

The most recent flame to heat up Jeets has been Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Hannah Davis. Not surprising really, considering the murderers' row of models, actresses, and pop stars that have preceded the 24-year-old beauty. They first started dating in 2012, but in February 2014 it was reported that they were broken up. Then back together. Then broken up again. We can't really keep up with all the on-again off-again business. It does, however, appear that Jeter is having more long-term relationships of late. Who knows? Maybe the Yankee great is finally ready to settle down.
