Tennessee, defensive coordinator John Jancek mutually part ways
After three seasons on the job, defensive coordinator John Jancek will no longer be a member of Butch Jones’ staff at Tennessee. Jancek has worked under Jones since 2010, as the two were both members of the Cincinnati staff to come to Knoxville.
Jones released a statement announcing the news Wednesday:
"John and I had a long discussion this morning and we both came to the conclusion that it was best to part ways," Jones said. "I want to thank Coach Jancek for his contributions to the University of Tennessee football program the past three years. His hard work and dedication to this program played a major role in our back-to-back bowl wins. These decisions are never easy especially for someone I have worked with at three different schools. We feel strongly about the direction our program is headed and will work diligently to find the best person available to lead our defense."
The timing is interesting considering National Signing Day is only a month away and the Vols are likely to be the favorites to win the SEC East in 2016. Which raises the question, does Jones already have an ideal replacement in line for the job?
Vols' Butch Jones makes a move at DC and parts ways with John Jancek. Jones has already reached out to several possible replacements.
