Jalen Wydermyer - Rather quiet in opener Wydermyer caught four passes for 36 yards against Kent State on Saturday.
Impact It was a fairly quiet performance for arguably the top target in this offense, and one of the better tight ends in the nation. Still, Wydermyer figures to play a more crucial role against more difficult competition, something that happens as early as next weekend versus the Buffs of Colorado.

Caleb Chapman - Goes for 91 yards in win Chapman caught four passes for 91 yards against Kent State on Saturday.
Impact Chapman looked spry and healthy in the opener, as he injured his knee last October and missed the majority of the 2020 campaign. Chapman is a big target at 6-foot-5, so he could play a role in the red zone as well. Quarterback play may dictate his effectiveness this season, though, and a stiffer test lurks next weekend against Colorado.

Ainias Smith - Dangerous weapon in passing game Smith caught eight passes for 100 yards and a touchdown Saturday against Kent State.
Impact Smith is a Swiss Army knife who is a threat to take the ball to the house whenever he touches the ball. Assuming the Aggies have even mediocre quarterback play this season, he should be in line for a standout campaign. A step up in competition looms next weekend against Colorado.

Isaiah Spiller - Over 100 yards in blowout Spiller rushed 17 times for 113 yards against Kent State on Saturday.
Impact Spiller continues to impress as one of the top backs in the country. He had six 100-yard outputs a season ago en route to a 1,000-yard season, and should be well on his way to yet another potent campaign. A matchup with Colorado could be a bit more difficult, though.

Devon Achane - Runs wild in romp Achane rushed 12 times for 124 yards and two touchdowns Saturday against Kent State.
Impact Though Isaiah Spiller received more touches, Achane showed his explosiveness against inferior competition, crossing the 100-yard rushing mark for the second-straight game dating back to last season. With new quarterback(s) under center, the Aggies could rely heavily on the 1-2 punch of Achane and Spiller. Yards will be a tad harder to come by against Colorado next weekend, though.

Haynes King - Two scores, three picks in win King completed 21-of-33 passes for 292 yards, two touchdowns and three picks Saturday against Kent State.
Impact King showed flashes but was ultimately lucky the competition was inferior, as he struggled with turnovers in his first start for the Aggies. Zach Calzada is waiting in the wings, so King's job is far from safe heading into a tougher matchup with Colorado.
