Rangers push Holland start up to Tuesday

Published Sep. 14, 2015 6:42 p.m. ET

The Texas Rangers have moved left-hander Derek Holland up in the rotation as he'll now start Tuesday's game against Houston.

The original plan had been for lefty Martin Perez to start Tuesday but he'll now go Wednesday.

The move keeps Holland on a regular rotation schedule and also gives Texas its two pitchers who are pitching best at the front end of the series.

"We have what we feel the two guys that have been pitching exceptionally well for us going back to back," Banister said. "We had an opportunity to move him up. He's been pitching well."

Holland is 3-2 with a 3.13 ERA, including 3-1 with a 2.97 mark since he came back from the disabled list.

Holland knew the move was coming so he was prepared to start.

"I already knew what was going on," Holland said. "I just had to prepare myself. Thought I did a good job against Seattle I just need to continue to do that against these guys and attack the zone. This is a big series. I still have to go out there and perform and be me. I can't worry about being the hottest pitcher or any of those saying that are out there as well I just have to go out there and be me."
