Aaron Hernandez' brother leaves Iowa staff

Published May. 22, 2015 10:39 a.m. ET

Older brother of former Patriots star Aaron Hernandez who is serving life in prison for murder, D.J. Hernandez has left the Iowa coaching staff.

Hernandez spent last year as a recruiting coordinator at Iowa under Kirk Ferentz. The former UCONN star has had a very difficult time during his brother's ordeal. Here is what Kirk Ferentz said about how difficult it's been per Hawkmania:

“It’s a very tough thing for D.J. to go through,’’ Ferentz said. “D.J. is a tremendous young man, had a great career at the University of Connecticut and was a very unselfish player there, a two-time captain, a very good student. There are a lot of things in life that are tough to explain. I’m not sure anybody can explain this one.’’
