WhatIfSports NFL Week 8 predictions: Chiefs pick up road win in Indy

Each Tuesday, WhatIfSports.com's NFL simulation engine generates predictions and box scores for every NFL game for the coming week. Our highly sophisticated algorithms simulate every play of every game to produce each team's likelihood to win. Each matchup is simulated 501 times.

To account for injuries and roster moves announced late in the week, we will be re-simulating games on Thursdays through the season.

Note: Our predictions use the latest available team and player information, while NFL SimMatchup includes all players that were or will be available at any point during the 2016 season so that theoretical and "what if" scenarios can be simulated.

Week 7 in Review

The NFL simulation engine got back on the winning side of things in Week 7, going 8-6 (57.1 percent) on straight up picks. Unfortunately, picking against the spread proved to be a little trickier. We went just 4-8 (33.3 percent) ATS in Week 7, narrowly missing a couple of games by just a few points.

Nailed It: Chiefs 27 - Saints 21. The Saints can be a tough team to predict, but our engine had this game figured out. We predicted the Chiefs to win 60.9 percent of the time, by an average score of 29-25.

Wide Right: Seahawks 6 - Cardinals 6. If we're going to talk about "Wide Right," we'd be remiss not to mention this game full of missed field goals. Our engine definitely didn't predict a tie, and had this one actually being pretty high-scoring with the Seahawks winning 57.5 percent of the time, by an average score of 27-24.

Week 8 Game to Watch

Chiefs at Colts: The Colts have looked re-energized on offense as of late, but they'll face a tough test with the Chiefs coming to town. The Chiefs have some bad memories from 2014 in Indy after the Colts pulled off the second biggest playoff comeback in NFL history, but we have the Chiefs exorcising their demons and winning 62.3 percent of the time by an average score of 27-23. 

Week 8 Against the Spread Pick

Cardinals (+3) over Panthers: It's hard to imagine that the Cardinals are giving up points here based on how bad Carolina has been defensively, but that's the case. Our engine has the Cardinals winning fairly convincingly in this one 68.7 percent of the time by an average score of 29-22. 

Fantasy Radar

Fantasy Start -- Christine Michael, SEA: Our projections love it when a good running back gets to play against New Orleans, and that's the case here. With Thomas Rawls still healing, Michael should get a big workload against a bad defense. Michael is our projected top-scorer at the running back position. 

Fantasy Sit -- Martellus Bennett, NE: After playing just 30 snaps last week, our engine isn't overly optimistic about Bennett's health or role in a matchup with Buffalo. We have Bennett scoring just 4.6 points and not being used very much the week before New England is on Bye. 

Fantasy Add -- Donte Moncrief, IND: If an owner dropped him earlier in the season, it might be time to grab him. Moncrief is slated to practice this week and could be on track to play against the Chiefs. If he suits up, our projections have him putting up solid WR2 numbers.
