We want our HDTV! Vikings add $14M for more monitors to new stadium
The Minnesota Vikings and the team's owners, the Wilf family, agreed to an additional $14 million contribution to the team's new stadium in downtown Minneapolis.
The stadium, set to open in 2016, now has a $1.076 billion budget. The additional private commitment from the team and the Wilfs on Friday will be directed to the stadium's television system, including more than 2,000 high-definition TV monitors.
The Vikings announced that $13 million of the additional $14 million will go to the television system. Previously the team had covered design fees to increase the number of monitors from 800 to 2,000. The contribution Friday helps cover the associated costs of the additional monitors and the TV video control system. The remainder of Friday's contribution is slated for lighting, utility enhancements as well as exterior signage.
The Vikings commitment is now at $566 million for the project. They've added $89 million to the budget since the stadium legislation passed three years ago. The additional contribution was announced at the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority board meeting Friday.
