Purdue's Swanigan sidelined vs. Minnesota with ankle injury

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 10:17 p.m. ET

MINNEAPOLIS -- Purdue power forward Caleb Swanigan, the Big Ten's leading rebounder, has been held out of the game at Minnesota with a right ankle injury.

Swanigan was hurt Sunday in the first half at Iowa. He wound up playing 25 minutes but finished just 2 for 9 from the floor. Coach Matt Painter said afterward that Swanigan's ankle was "fine," but the 21st-ranked Boilermakers apparently weren't ready to risk aggravation for their freshman standout.

Purdue went with a smaller lineup against the Gophers, with Dakota Mathias and P.J. Thompson starting in place of Swanigan and Johnny Hill from the last game. The 6-foot-9 Swanigan is averaging 10.1 points and 8.9 rebounds per game.
