The 2016 World Cup of Hockey action begins today.
The 2016 World Cup of Hockey officially gets underway today with two games on the schedule including Team USA taking on Team Europe. Over the past week, fans have been entertained by the pre-tournament games, however, now it is time for the rubber to meet the road as the preliminary round robin tournament action is scheduled to begin this afternoon in Toronto.
According to a Daily News report, two games are on the World Cup schedule today as all eight teams get ready to battle it out. The 2016 World Cup is made up of six countries that include the United States, Canada, Russia, Czech Republic, Finland, and Sweden.
Those countries make up six of the eight teams. The other two squads are comprised of players from a variety of nations and make up Team North America and Team Europe.
Team North America is made up of players from the US and Canada – and they are all under the age of 23, while Team Europe has players from several countries that include Germany, Slovakia and Switzerland. The eight teams are divided into two groups, Group A and Group B.
Group A consists of Team Canada, Team USA, Team Czech Republic and Team Europe. Group B is made up of Team Sweden, Team Russia, Team North America and Team Finland.
Hockey fans will be able to keep up with all of the action in various ways throughout the tournament. The ESPN family of networks will air every game on the television side via ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPN News. They will also air games streaming online through Watch ESPN.
