Swedish hockey referee has finger torn off in freak in-game accident

Hockey is one of the more horrific sports in terms of actual carnage.
It's one of the few team sports where having your throat sliced open is a thing you have to think about, which makes more common injuries like having your teeth broken seem like a lucky break.
But rest assured, there are injuries out there that even hockey players can't deal with—case in point: Swedish league referee Anton Starby losing the end of his finger on a one-in-a-million accident along the boards at a game between Tingsryd and Oskarshamn.
Per The Hockey News' Jared Clinton, Starby's injury occurred in the first period when he tried to avoid a collision between two players on the board. He stuck his hand out for support and his finger caught in the boards. When he fell away from the wall...the half of the little finger on his right hand didn't come with him.
Hockey Web Cast's Robert Soderlind tweeted video of the incident. Be warned, it's not easy to look at.
"It was the nastiest [injury] I have ever witnessed," Tingsryd coach Magnus Sundquist told reporters. "He tore off his finger, literally. Players wondered what was rope that hung on the rim, but it was the finger. Our doctor had to remove it...we think of him. This was really nasty and very unlucky. It may happen one in a million."
Dan is on Twitter, shuddering.
