SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) The San Jose Sharks have signed free agent defenseman David Schlemko to a four-year contract.

Doug Wilson announced the deal on Friday, just after the start of the free-agent signing period. Wilson said Schlemko is a good puck mover who can play at both ends of the ice.

The 29-year-old Schlemko posted career highs with six goals and 13 assists in 67 games for New Jersey last season. He played more than 18 minutes a game and can upgrade San Jose's third defensive pair with Brenden Dillon.

Schlemko has 15 goals and 54 assists in 298 career games with Arizona, Dallas, Calgary and New Jersey.
