Sabres TV analyst recovering from back surgery
Longtime Buffalo Sabres television analyst Mike Robitaille (ROH'-bih-ty) is recovering from back surgery after being injured in a car crash.
According to a statement from Buffalo's Millard Fillmore Gates Circle Hospital, Wednesday's surgery decompressed Robitaille's spinal cord and stabilized his spine. He is listed in serious but stable condition.
The procedure was performed a week after Robitaille sustained a back injury when his car was rear-ended.
Robitaille, who turns 62 Friday, was playing for Vancouver when his NHL career ended because of a severe neck injury suffered in a game against Pittsburgh in 1977.
Robitaille also played for the New York Rangers, Detroit Red Wings and the Sabres.
He has been a Sabres TV and radio analyst for nearly 30 years. He's expected to return to the broadcast booth after the Olympic break.
