Buffalo Sabres captain Craig Rivet should be ready for the start of training camp, putting the defenseman ahead of schedule after he had offseason shoulder surgery.
Coach Lindy Ruff said Monday that Rivet will be ready for the team's first practice Saturday. Rivet was initially expected to miss up to six months after having surgery in May to repair his left shoulder.
Ruff said he expects the player to be ready for the start of the season next month.
Rivet had surgery after wearing a brace and playing with the injury for most of last season, his 15th in the NHL. He had a goal and 14 assists in 78 games.
