Rutherford says Penguins were Cup contenders without injuries

With the Penguins having made an early exit from the playoffs, there's been a lot of talk already about what needs to be done to get the team back into Stanley Cup contention going forward.
It might not be a whole lot, though, according to Penguins GM Jim Rutherford.
"I'm not so sure we weren’t there this year, with a healthy team," he told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on Tuesday. "No one will ever know, but based on what I saw on that California trip right after the deadline, that team had come together at that point."
Rutherford explains that, in his opinion, the Penguins' March injuries might have been their undoing. And if that's the case, it might provide some insight into what the team will be looking to do (or not do) this offseason.
