Report: Bruins' goaltending prospect McIntyre plans to turn pro

North Dakota goaltender and Bruins draft pick Zane McIntyre will forego his senior season and turn pro, according to a report from Elliotte Friedman of Hockey Night in Canada.
The college netminder has 30 days after leaving college to sign a contract with the Bruins or else he will become a free agent. If McIntyre does sign with the Bruins, he could compete with Malcolm Subban for the backup goaltending spot since Bruins back-up Nikolas Svedberg signed with the KHL earlier this week.
McIntyre helped North Dakota to a Frozen Four appearance this season after posting a .929 save percentage and a 2.05 goals against average. North Dakota lost to Boston University in the semifinals of the Frozen Four.
McIntyre has an interesting past, as he used to be Zane Gothberg but changed his last name to his mother's maiden name last summer because of the influence his mother and grandmother had in his life, McIntyre told USCHO.com. The name change came after his grandmother passed away and his mother got married, meaning Zane would be the only one to carry on the family name.
