Red Wings' Howard honors Tigers' legends with Stadium Series mask

Detroit Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard is hoping to hit a home run with his Stadium Series mask.

Howard is honoring some of the Detroit Tigers' "heavy hitters" with images of Ty Cobb, Al Kaline, Alan Trammell, Kirk Gibson, manager Sparky Anderson and broadcaster Ernie Harwell adorning his mask.

With the Tigers' four World Series title years (1935, 1945, 1968 and 1984) on the crown, Howard certainly is taking the baseball theme to heart. The 31-year-old Howard and the Red Wings will try their luck at Coors Field on Feb. 27 with a game against the Colorado Avalanche.

Now, whether Howard actually plays in the contest is anyone's guess. The former United States Olympian is just 7-7-4 with a 2.76 goals-against average and has seen Petr Mrazek (18-9-4, 2.03 GAA) wrest away the club's starting duties.

Howard has never been shy with altering his look, especially when he supported Breast Cancer Awareness Month last season - thanks to Bishop Designs.
