Predators GM calls Vesey's plan to try free agency 'bizarre'

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Jimmy Vesey plans to test free agency rather than sign with the Nashville Predators and play immediately, though general manager David Poile says he isn't giving hope of signing the forward selected in the 2012 draft.
Poile said it was a bizarre and shocking situation when he spoke with reporters during the second intermission of Nashville's game with Colorado on Monday night.
The Predators have been talking with Vesey, expecting the forward to join them once his collegiate career ended with Harvard's loss on Friday. Poile says they made it clear Vesey had a spot on one of their top lines waiting and the chance to burn a year of his entry-level deal by signing immediately.
The Associated Press left a message seeking comment from Vesey's agent.
