Predators give GM Poile extension

Published Feb. 20, 2012 12:00 a.m. ET

The Nashville Predators have extended the contract of David Poile, who has served as the franchise's only general manager since its inception 14 years ago.

Predators chairman Tom Cigarran announced Monday that Poile's contract now runs through the 2014-15 season. Assistant general manager Paul Fenton was also given an extended contract.

Cigarran credits the team's consistent success to the players, coaches and staff assembled by Poile. Cigarran says he and the rest of Nashville's ownership group believes Poile's leadership will help the Predators win the Stanley Cup.

The Predators have won 40 or more games in each of the previous six seasons and are one of six teams to qualify for the playoffs in six of the last seven.
