Philadelphia Flyers Buzz: Notes on Injuries, World Cup

Philadelphia Flyers news is picking up as the season approaches. News and notes to get caught up.
Gudas Injury
Ron Hextall commented yesterday that his information on Radko Gudas is not as bad as some reports suggest. Gudas withdrew from playing in the World Cup earlier this week, with some reports saying he had a hairline fracture in his wrist. He is expected to be ready for the start of the regular season.

Sean Couturier and Shayne Gostisbehere premiered for Team North America (under-23) yesterday in a convincing win over Team Europe. Europe could not keep up with the youngster’s speed, falling 4-0.
Before the game, Connor McDavid was named captain of the team, and Sean Couturier was named an alternate captain. Neither Ghost nor Couturier appeared on the scoresheet, playing 15 minutes and 14 minutes respectively. As expected, Ghost featured on the number one power play unit, while Couturier was a key penalty killer.
Team Czech
In other action yesterday, the Czech Republic lost to Russia 4-3. Jakub Voracek played for the Czechs, while Philadelphia Flyers goalie Michal Neuvirth waiting for his shot in their next game.
Voracek played 15 minutes and finished the game -1 with 2 penalty minutes. Those penalty minutes came during a first period shoving match with Dmitry Orlov from the Washington Capitals, as perhaps the players still have their feisty playoff series last spring in their minds.
Voracek almost had a nice assist late in the game, but ex-Flyer Sergei Bobrovsky denied Tomas Plekanec’s shot with this sparkling toe save. Judging by the clip below, Voracek looked like he was getting ready to celebrate the goal that never came.
Cole Bardreau
Flyers prospect Cole Bardreau will undergo abdominal surgery and miss 4-6 weeks. Bardreau is a 23-year old forward whom the Flyers signed out of Cornell University. He scored 30 points last year in 54 games with the Phantoms in the AHL, and some thought he may challenge for a Flyers roster spot in training camp.
Rookie Camp
Speaking of training camps, the Flyers tweaked some camp dates. Rookies will hit the ice on September 19, joined by veterans on September 23.
USA-Canada Tonight
Team Canada and Team USA will take to the ice one day later than the other World Cup participants. They will meet tonight at 7pm EST, broadcast on ESPNU.
