Patrice Bergeron unknowingly ties Bruins legend's scoring record
Legendary Bruin Milt Schmidt's number hangs in the rafters at the TD Garden, but current Bruins forward Patrice Bergeron does not think of the local great often. Bergeron matched Schmidt's scoring record by notching an assist in Monday's 3-2 loss to the Nashville Predators to tie Schmidt for 11th place on the Bruins' all-time scoring list with 575 career points.
But the ever-humble Bergeron was totally unaware of his newest achievement following the game.
"Did I?” Bergeron asked reporters when told of the scoring record. "I didn’t know that. Obviously, Milt is someone that I respect a lot. He’s a legend with the Bruins and a true gentleman. … But bottom line is, I don’t really pay much attention to that."
Bergeron has been highly productive on offense for the Bruins so far this season. The three-time Selke Trophy-winner has 25 points (eight goals, 17 assists) in 26 games for the Bruins this year, an improvement over his pace last season when he recorded 55 points (23 goals, 32 assists) in 81 games.
