The New York Islanders are a team coming off their first visit to the second round in 23 years. Despite this accomplishment, the Islanders have some questions heading into the season and Peter Botte breaks it down.

Firstly, who is with John Tavares? It seems like it will be Andrew Ladd and P.A. Parenteau. The issue with Parenteau is that he is only a short term solution as he’s holding down the fort for Josh Ho-Sang. So what is the long term plan with giving your cornerstone player adequate wingers.

The next question is how Jack Capuano will handle the goalie situation. You have to believe Jaroslav Halak has earned the starting role and Thomas Greiss will go back to the backup role. Greiss played well down the stretch and into the playoffs, but Halak is the better of the two.

Finally, what is their long term plan for their home. The new owners made it clear they are looking into other options besides Brooklyn. The Islanders can opt out of the Barclays lease after 2018.

Despite these questions, expect the Islanders to be just as competitive as they were last year.
