Montreal's Subban stresses short window for winning

Montreal's Stanley Cup dreams ended Tuesday night with the Canadiens' 4-1 loss to Tampa Bay, but defenseman P.K. Subban said the team needs to carry over its strong play into next season.
"I can't focus on saying we need to wait a couple of years before we can contend," Subban told Arpon Basu of NHL.com. "We need to contend now."
The Canadiens' most key players are all in the primes of their NHL careers. Goaltender Carey Price will turn 28 years old in August, while star forward Max Pacioretty will be 27 next November and Subban turned 26 years old on Wednesday.
The scene in the division also allows the Canadiens an opportunity, as traditional powerhouses Boston and Detroit are both teams in transition while Florida and Ottawa are younger squads looking to gain prominence in the coming years. Buffalo and Toronto rank in the bottom of the barrel, leaving room for the Lightning and Canadiens to continue to dominate the division standings.
