Leafs fan banned for waffle tossing

Toronto Maple Leafs fan Joe Robb has been banned from the team's Air Canada Centre after throwing a box of waffles onto the ice Monday night, Toronto's The Globe and Mail reported Wednesday.

Robb was evicted from the arena during Monday night’s game against the Atlanta Thrashers after he threw a box of Kellog’s Eggo waffles onto the icy surface.

“I didn’t intend for it to hurt nobody and maybe I shouldn’t have done it while the play was going on,” Robb told the Globe and Mail Wednesday. “I totally love the Leafs and that’s pretty much my hobby to watch the team play.”

The Leafs were trailing 5-1 when the 31-year-old Robb lofted the waffles over the boards.

He said he tossed the microwavable breakfast out of "frustration" and was following the lead of a man known only as “Jack M.," who was reportedly the first to toss the frozen treat during a game against the Philadelphia Flyers on Dec. 9.

Robb was charged with mischief after the incident, but says he does not understand why he has been banned indefinitely.

“I’ve seen hats been thrown on the ice,” he said. “Why can’t waffles be thrown?”

The self-proclaimed "die-hard" fan said he does not regret his decision, but intends to make amends with his beloved hockey team.

“I’m going to try to get in contact with them and apologize,” he said.

Toronto has struggled this season, getting off to a 12-17-4 start, earning just 28 points. They currently sit 10 points out of playoff contention in the Eastern Conference with little more than half the season to play.
