Joe Louis Arena entrance makeover honors "Farewell Season At The Joe" with Logo

Red Wings owner Mike Ilitch and the entire staff are making sure that Joe Louis Arena goes out in style.
Joe Louis Arena has brought hockey fans many great memories over the four decades it had been the home of the Red Wings. Now entering its final season as the Wings home, parts of Joe Louis Arena are getting a makeover to celebrate the Wings “Farewell Season at The Joe.”
According to an ABC report, the Wings will be changing a few things this, including the steps millions of fans have used to enter and exit JLA. The East and West Entrances will be getting a special logo painted on them in honor of the final season.
Reports indicate that this will be the first time the stairs have been transformed for the regular season. We all know how Joe Louis Arena gets a make over every April for the NHL playoffs, but this time the commemorative honor will remain in place for the entire 2016-17 season.
The transformation began this morning around 11 a.m. and is expected to be finished today.
The Wings are hoping the stairs are a hit with fans as they are encouraging fans to take photos of the stairs at any time and then post them to social media using the hashtag #Farewell2TheJoe.
The Wings have had some great moments at The Joe, including clinching the Stanley Cup championship in front of the home town fans in 1997 and again in 2002.
Overall the Red Wings celebrated four championships while calling Joe Louis Arena home. They defeated the Washington Capitals in 1998 and took down the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2008. While title were captured on the road, fans still packed Joe Louis Arena to watch the action unfold live on “Joe Vision.” The Red Wings moved into Joe Louis Arena in 1979 from the Detroit Olympia, where they played from 1927-1978.
