Jets captain Andrew Ladd to have surgery for sports hernia
-Jets captain Andrew Ladd must have quite the pain threshold.
While speaking on a media conference call about his recent nomination for the Mark Messier NHL Leadership Award, Ladd revealed that the sports hernia he suffered during winter of the regular season will require surgery, which he will undergo Friday in St. Louis.
Despite having to regularly miss team skates in order to allow some of the pain to subside between games, Ladd was able to battle all the way to the end of the Jets’ playoff run. With that, he surely validated his nomination for the Mark Messier Award, an honor he shares with captains Jonathan Toews of the Blackhawks, and Ryan Getzlaf of the Ducks.
“It means a lot” he told Ed Tait of the Winnipeg Free Press, “The two guys I’m nominated with I’ve played with and realize what they mean to their teams and communities. To be mentioned in the group as them is quite an honor. And with Mark Messier having a hand in choosing the nominations is pretty special too.”
Ladd enjoyed a stellar season in 2014-15, recording a career high 62 points in spite of the hernia injury he battled for much of the year.
