Islanders Blow 3 Goal Lead Then Win It In The Final Minute

The New York Islanders won an absolutely wild game against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Here are the highlights from the 5-3 victory.
Okay, we can collectively stop holding our breath now. The Islanders sure do like to make it interesting for us as they blew a three goal third period lead before getting a clutch goal from Anders Lee. Here’s how it happened.
The first period was evenly matched for the most part, but the Islanders would get on the board first thanks to an absolute rocket from Johnny Boychuk in the final minute.

This gave the Islanders momentum heading into the dressing room after one. That momentum carried over in period two.
The Islanders would add two more in the middle frame. One from Jason Chimera, which was a pretty lucky bounce but we will take it and the other a nice play from Casey Cizikas.
The Islanders even had a 5 on 3 scenario where Matt Murray robbed John Tavares of a goal. A missed oppurtunity for sure

After two the score was 3-0. Surely the Isles would continue their dominant play in the third period right? Wrong, the Islanders completely melted down giving up three goals in thirteen minutes.
The Penguins came back to tie the game up and it felt like for sure the Isles were going to find a way to blow this.
Finally, a game in which they looked good, and it was all washed away in thirteen minutes. Luckily the already hot Anders Lee continued his stretch of scoring and tipped one past Murray with 27 seconds to go.

Nikolai Kulemin would add an empty netter seconds later and this one was over. Not exactly how we would have liked it, but a win is a win right?
The Isles genuinely looked solid for two periods but that meltdown is concerning to say the least. Even in a win it’s hard to feel good about this team. Washington tomorrow, maybe this is the turning point? One can only hope.
