Flyers' Streit: Gostisbehere 'makes us a better team'

Philadelphia Flyers injured defenseman Mark Streit admitted that he sees plenty of himself in rookie Shayne Gostisbehere.

So much so, in fact, that Streit has endorsed the 22-year-old and his impact on the team while the veteran recovers from pubic-plate dislocation surgery.

"He has great offensive skills and instincts," the soon-to-be 38-year-old Streit told CSN Philly. "A good shot, too. He has had a good first (12) games. He is pretty similar to the way I was. ... We got a guy who can jump into the play and create offense. It’s so tough, everyone is playing well defensively. The more guys can make the good first pass and join the play and create offense, it makes us a better team."

Therein lies the problem for Streit, who - like Gostisbehere - serves as the quarterback on the power play. For now, the injured Streit is at least three weeks away from returning to the ice.

Gostisbehere has collected four goals and as many assists for the Flyers, who have dropped two in a row following a season-high four-game winning streak.
