Florida Panthers: Preseason Game vs Tampa Bay Postponed
Due to the pending threat of the Hurricane Matthew, the preseason game between the Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning has been postponed. No makeup date has yet to be announced, and with less than a week from the start of the regular season, there might not be one.
“While we are disappointed to announce the postponement of any event at the BB&T Center, the safety of our fans, staff and the people of South Florida is always our top priority,” said Executive Chairman Peter Luukko in a statement.
On a personal note, all my thoughts, prayers, and best wishes go out to everyone in the path of this storm. I myself have family that live throughout the state of Florida, and am certainly keeping a close eye open to what is going on down there.
This is nothing to play around with, if you are expected to be in the immediate path of the storm, please, get out.
As recent of a few hours ago while writing this, Matthew was recently upped to a category four hurricane. Different situation, and location, so it’s probably an unfair comparison – but Hurricane Katrina was only a category three when it hit land in Louisiana.
A hurricane of that magnitude has a sustained wind speed of 130-156 mph. Matthew is being heralded as the strongest hurricane set to hit Florida in over a decade.
So far, Matthew has devastated Haiti and appears to be set to make landfall in Florida tonight.
Again, please be safe out there. If you didn’t make it out, for whatever reason, secure whatever protection you have and hold tight.
