Edmonton Oilers Updates: Kassian, Davidson, Larsson and More

The Edmonton Oilers broke out in their 7-4 win over the Calgary Flames Wednesday. Coming off a strong performance, the team practiced Thursday in preparation for Friday’s rematch with the Flames.
Zack Kassian earned a promotion to the second line with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Benoit Pouliot. The 6-foot-3, 214-pound winger scored a goal in the season opener and had a solid overall game. He definitely deserves time on the top-six, given his performance.
To allow Kassian time on the second line, the Oilers demoted Anton Slepyshev to the fourth line. He skated alongside Tyler Pitlick and Mark Letestu following a quiet game Wednesday.
In other news, the Oilers placed Brandon Davidson on the injured reserve. The 25-year-old could be out for a while following an injury in Wednesday’s win. He was not on the ice for practice.
To make up for the loss, Edmonton recalled Eric Gryba from the Bakersfield Condors. The recently-signed blueliner cleared waivers and may get to suit up. Either Gryba, Mark Fayne or Matt Benning will replace Davidson Friday.
Adam Larsson was not on the ice at practice. It is unknown whether or not the Swedish defender is injured or taking a maintenance day. More details will come out after practice.
Also, Drake Caggiula remains day-to-day with an apparent hip injury. The North Dakota alum did not play in the season opener, and as per sources, the Oilers are not going to rush him.
We will have more details and updates as they come out, but right now, this Oilers team looks ready for another Battle of Alberta Friday.
