Edmonton Oilers Cut Khaira, Others to Trim Roster to 36

As the preseason starts to wane to an end, the Edmonton Oilers made more cuts. The Oilers are taking these cuts seriously and are closer to revealing their opening night roster.
Edmonton assigned Jujhar Khaira, Mitch Moroz, Eetu Laurikainen and Joey LaLeggia to the Bakersfield Condors. They also placed Taylor Beck and David Musil on waivers for the purpose of reassignment.

One of the most shocking cuts was Khaira, who seemed ready to compete for a fourth-line spot. However, he did struggle greatly Friday against Winnipeg, which obviously hurt his chances. It looks like Edmonton is taking every performance seriously, and one rough night could translate to a cut.
It looks like Edmonton is taking every performance seriously, and one rough night could translate to a cut. This is a great mentality, but unfortunately, Khaira’s strong start to camp and potential was cut short due to one poor game.
As for Musil, he is a solid AHL defender who is going on his fourth year in the pro league. No team has claimed him and it is past noon, so it looks like he will be heading to the Condors. The 23-year-old blueliner has great potential and will make it to the NHL one day, but he needs to work on things. He needs to improve his skating and overall skill before he can make it to the fast-paced NHL world.
As for Moroz, LaLeggia and Laurikainen, they all need more time to develop and have a lot to work on. They were expected cuts, and will likely look to capitalize and develop further in Bakersfield.
Beck had a decent camp, but unfortunately, he was another cut. When you look at the Oilers’ depth on the right wing, there are many candidates and only four slots open. While Beck shined at times, he isn’t as strong as Puljujarvi, Versteeg, Yakupov or even Pakarinen.
The Oilers’ roster sits at 36 players as Edmonton heads to Kraft Hockeyville to take on the Los Angeles Kings Sunday.
