The Edmonton Oilers and New York Islanders Have Completed a Pretty Big Deal Thursday Afternoon Involving a Former First Overall Draft Pick.

For quite some time now the Edmonton Oilers have been waving around Jordan Eberle's name in trade rumors for years. And finally one has gone through. The club announced Thursday that they have sent the top scoring forward to the New York Islanders for center Ryan Strome.

The 23-year-old Strome was a fifth overall pick in 2011 by the Islanders that split time between both the NHL club and their affiliate in the AHL the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. In 258 career NHL games, Strome has potted 45 goals, 81 assists for 126 points. His younger brother Dylan is expected to become an NHL regular next season with Arizona while his youngest brother Matthew is expected to be drafted in the first or second rounds of this year's entry draft.

The 27-year-old Eberle will be going to an Islanders team that could use his scoring touch big time, and when he's on the first line with John Tavares, they are going to receive it. Eberle's best season came in 2011-12 when he put up 76 points in 78 games for the Oilers breaking the 30 goal mark for the first and only time in the NHL. And so far throughout 507 career NHL games, Jordan has managed 165 goals, 217 assists for 382 points.

This is a solid deal that works out huge for both teams, Edmonton needs more depth down the middle while the Islanders need more help on the wings. And let's not forget this is a good old fashioned hockey trade that involved player for player.
