Devils doing better than expected

Heading into this season, few hockey experts predicted the New Jersey Devils might once again battle it out for the lead in the Eastern Conference standings. At best they were predicted to finish no higher than fifth, at worst 13th overall and out of the postseason for the first time since 1996.
