Washington Capitals forward Daniel Winnik lost a piece of his ear while blocking a shot in Washington's 4–2 win over the Florida Panthers on Thursday night.

The puck hit Winnik in the head as he went to the ice trying to block a shot from Florida's Reilly Smith in the third period. Winnik went to the locker room but returned a few minutes later, without missing a shift.

After the game, Capitals head coach Barry Trotz revealed that Winnik wasn't totally unscathed.

Trotz went on to say that Winnik was "fine" and that "just a small piece" of his ear is missing, according to Isabelle Khurshudyan of the Washington Post.
