Capitals G Holtby inked to five-year, $30.5 million deal

The Washington Capitals have avoided the arbitration ruling with goaltender Braden Holtby.

The two sides agreed on a five-year, $30.5 million deal.

“Braden emerged as a top NHL goaltender and we are pleased to sign him to a long-term contract,” Capitals GM Brian MacLellan said, via the Capitals PR department. “We feel Braden is just entering his prime and in his young career has already established himself as one of the best goaltenders in the history of our franchise. He is an athletic goaltender with a tremendous work ethic and is a big part of our future.”

Holtby emerged as one of the league's top goaltenders this season. Holtby posted a .927 save percentage and a 2.22 goals against average in a league-leading 73 games. Holtby finished fourth in  Vezina Trophy votes as the league's top goaltender.

The Capitals' Marcus Johansson remains as the only restricted free agent for the Capitals. Johansson has an arbitration hearing on July 29.
