WASHINGTON (AP) Washington Capitals defenseman Brooks Orpik underwent wrist surgery Tuesday, according to a statement from the team.

The Capitals said he will resume full workout activities in two weeks. They anticipate Orpik returning to full hockey activities in time for the season opener.

The 34-year-old was signed by the Capitals as a free agent last year and totaled 19 assists and 66 penalty minutes last season.
