Bruins fans ponder grassroots goal horn campaign

Hockey purists tend to hold a special place in their hearts for Original Six teams, and fans of the Boston Bruins take that elite status quite seriously. Some fans take it so seriously that mundane issues -- such as whether the team uses a goal horn or a pre-recorded sound for goals -- actually matter to the fanbase.
It's no surprise then that one Bruins fan on Reddit objected so strongly to the team's use of a recording for a goal horn that the fan is looking to start a grassroots campaign to convince the team to use the real thing.
"I'd like to see (this is where you could help out) how people would feel about drumming up interest in raising money to buy the Bruins a K5LA [horn]/convince them they should buy one themselves since [owner Jeremy] Jacobs charges us $9 a beer," the fan wrote on Reddit.
The post received mixed responses, as some suggested the Bruins should either use a train horn (since the TD Garden is also a train station) or a fog horn (since Boston has a harbor). Others said the purity of the goal horn did not matter so much to them.
"I couldn't care less what the noise is when they score -- as long as they score," one fan wrote on Reddit.
Scoring was an issue for the Bruins last season, as they had the ninth-worst offense in the NHL. The Bruins made some changes on offense over the offseason, trading Milan Lucic and Reilly Smith to acquire Matt Beleskey and Jimmy Hayes, two forwards who have potential but have yet to prove they are more prolific and consistent scorers than Lucic and Smith.
