Blackhawks' Quenneville: Hossa to sit out until after Christmas break

Chicago Blackhawks veteran forward Marian Hossa is expected to be sidelined until at least after the Christmas break, coach Joel Quenneville told reporters.

Hossa, who will be ruled out of Tuesday's tilt versus the Central Division-rival Dallas Stars, missed the Blackhawks' 4-3 victory over the San Jose Sharks on Sunday due to an upper-body injury. Quenneville noted that the 36-year-old Hossa's expected absence on Tuesday is merely for precautionary reasons.

Hossa has scored just five goals and set up 11 others in 31 games this season for the Blackhawks, who return from the Christmas break to host the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday.

The veteran has collected 491 tallies and 581 assists in 1,203 career contests with the Ottawa Senators, Atlanta Thrashers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Detroit Red Wings and Blackhawks.

"Hopefully (Hossa) can play when we get back after Christmas. I don't think it's serious at all."
