You need to watch San Diego Chargers vs Denver Broncos

The Tennessee Titans play the San Diego Chargers next weekend, so what better way to scout next week’s opponent than by watching them today?

With the news that Aqib Talib is out today against the the Chargers, I think this game should be very close to what the Titans can put out on the field next Sunday, especially defensively.

The Titans have a defense dominated by edge rushers, with one very strong interior presence. On the outside today, they will have one CB who is talented, but question marks opposite him.

On offense, both teams are led by a tough running game which leads to more openings in the passing game. While the Titans offensive line is clearly superior, the Broncos have a better group of wide receivers.

So here is exactly what I am watching:

      Chargers run defense

The Chargers are one of the better teams in the NFL at stopping the run, which is night and day from where they were last year. They only allow just over 90 yards per game, 8th in the NFL.

I imagine that the running game will be a huge emphasis for both the Titans and the Broncos, so seeing how the Chargers try to stop that today, may help Tennessee in the future.

      Joey Bosa

Bosa was dominant in college, one of the few players that really beat him up pretty good was Jack Conklin.

Now, I expect Bosa to have a big day today, but the reason I am watching him is to see where they line him up. Will he play both sides of the line? Will he kick inside? Are the Titans going to have to identify where he is presnap?

All of these things are important in a gameplan.

      Who drives the offense

Philip Rivers is one of the best QBs in the league, and has been for the last 10 years. While he may be on the downslide of his career, if you don’t respect his ability to distribute the ball all over the field you will get killed.

On the other hand Melvin Gordon is tied for the NFL lead with 8 rushing touchdowns, and he has two more receiving touchdowns on top of that. He has become a much bigger factor than people expected this year and looks better than his 2015 NFL Draft classmate Todd Gurley.

The Titans need to figure out how to eliminate one of those guys from the offense and force the other one to carry the load. I would imagine that Tennessee will force Rivers to beat them through the air and test the offensive line and Gordon with a lot of unique blitzes.
