Woodley signs Steelers' franchise offer

Published Feb. 23, 2011 12:00 a.m. ET

Last week, the Pittsburgh Steelers placed their non-exclusive franchise tag on starting outside linebacker LaMarr Woodley.

On Wednesday, Woodley signed the one-year franchise tender worth just over $10 million. By signing it, the salary becomes guaranteed for the season — that’s if there’s a season and franchise tags are included in the new collective bargaining agreement whenever it gets finished.

Woodley, who was selected in the second round of the 2007 draft by the Steelers, has 35 sacks in the past three seasons.

The former University of Michigan defender has quickly become one of the premier pass rushers from an outside linebacker standpoint in the NFL.
