Williams returns after 'procedure'

Published Oct. 29, 2012 1:00 a.m. ET

A person with direct knowledge of Mario Williams' plans says the defensive end has rejoined the Buffalo Bills and expects to play at Houston this weekend following a ''procedure'' on his sprained left wrist.

The person provided the update Monday when Buffalo (3-4) returned from its bye week. The person spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because the team has not made an announcement.

Williams was absent last week because of a wrist injury he's had since the start of the season.

The Bills would not say if Williams had surgery. It's unclear when Williams informed the team he intended to have the ''procedure,'' but the person said general manager Buddy Nix has spoken to the player's doctor.

The Bills signed Williams to a six-year, $100 million contract in March.
