Vikings DT Floyd on filling in for Joseph: 'I got to be the big dog'

Published Dec. 15, 2015 4:28 p.m. ET

Minnesota Vikings defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd knows he's no Linval Joseph, but he'll offer his best impression for the time being. Joseph has been resting an injured foot, leaving Floyd to fill in for him at nose tackle.

Floyd has stepped up to the challenge willingly.

Floyd is better suited to play the three technique (he's nearly 20 pounds lighter than Joseph), where he can find more favorable matchups and pierce the offensive backfield. He has not fared poorly at nose tackle, though, with nine tackles in the past two weeks.

The Vikings are still eagerly awaiting Joseph's healthy return, but Floyd is doing an admirable job in his stead.
