Vikes RB Adrian Peterson hurt

Published Nov. 20, 2011 12:00 a.m. ET

Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was helped off the field after suffering a left ankle injury.

Peterson, who had six carries for 26 yards, was treated on the sideline and later carted into the locker room.

At the end of the first quarter, Peterson rolled over his ankle and seemed to be in a bit of agony. The Vikings will turn to Toby Gerhart to handle a majority of the carries against the Oakland Raiders.

The Vikings said Peterson's return is questionable.
