Victor Cruz still targeting full participation for Giants' training camp
If you ask New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz, his recovery from a torn patella tendon is headed in the right direction. Cruz joked that he is now 81 percent healthy, after admitting to being 80 percent healthy last month. On a more serious note, Cruz feels that if he had to take it today, he could pass the team's physical conditioning test. This test is a key hurdle for Cruz to overcome in his quest to be a full participant when the Giants open training camp in late July.
"It definitely matters to me," Cruz said to reporters on Monday, per Giants.com. "I want to come out here at the end of July and be ready to go. Be healthy and from a physical standpoint with my wind have everything ready to go come July 29th or 30th and then let the training staff kind of pull me back and let me know what they want from me."
All signs are positive, and Cruz has been working with the Giants' staff to create a training regimen that best prepares him for training camp and eventually the regular season.
"Obviously you want to push it and make sure you continue on the path of getting back to 100 percent, but you need your recovery days too," he said. "The training staff and myself are working on putting a regimen together that includes both of those things, so we'll see how that goes. But it'll definitely be a little of both. I don't want to come in sluggish or with tired muscles, I want to come in fresh, ready to run and ready to go."
It will be a major positive sign if we see Cruz suit up in wide receiver drills when the Giants line up for their first practice in training camp. We've still got over a month to go before we will learn anything concrete.
