Texans bench Brock Osweiler after he throws two first-half interceptions

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 6:02 p.m. ET

Texans quarterback Brock Osweiler’s season went from bad to worse on Sunday when he was benched in favor of Tom Savage.

Osweiler completed six of 11 passes for 48 yards and threw two interceptions before he was pulled. He entered the game with 2,656 yards, 14 touchdowns and 14 interceptions in 13 games. He has completed 59.7% of his passes.

Osweiler signed a four-year, $72 million contract before this season and has struggled to live up to it. SI.com’s Greg Bedard called for the Texans to bench Osweiler after Week 12. Fans have also been critical of the deal, with some even contributing to a GoFundMe page to buy Osweiler out.

Savage was selected in the fourth round in 2014 and threw 19 passes as a rookie. He missed all of last season with an injury.
