While Chicago Bears tight end Martellus Bennett held out of voluntary OTA workouts, he could have at least been keeping his mind sharp by studying the playbook designed by new offensive coordinator Adam Gase. Instead, Bennett said he got his first look at Gase's scheme upon reporting to minicamp on Tuesday, according to Dan Wiederer of the Chicago Tribune.

"I didn’t look at it," Bennett told the Tribune. "Today’s my first day looking at the offense. So it’s just like any course you ever take in school"

When asked if he had some catching up to do, Bennett was dismissive and played down the progress that's often made during early offseason workouts.

"Not really," Bennett said, per the Tribune. "We're only out here for three days and then it's training camp and we start all over again. So not really. A lot of (other) guys they know a lot of the stuff we're doing. But I'm pretty intelligent. So I pick up on things pretty quick."

Although Bennett has reported to minicamp, he said in the interview that he still wants a new contract. The tight end is two years deep in a four-year deal and coming off a 90-catch, 900-yard campaign in 2014.
