Suspended Redskins apologize to team

Published Dec. 7, 2011 12:00 a.m. ET

Washington Redskins players say tight end Fred Davis and left tackle Trent Williams have apologized after getting suspended for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.

Quarterback Rex Grossman says Davis and Williams spoke at a team meeting Wednesday morning and that their words were ''extremely genuine.''

Guard Chris Chester says it was a tough moment because ''no one wants to be in that position.''

Davis and Williams are suspended for four games — the rest of the regular season. Their punishments were announced by the league on Tuesday.
