Steven Hauschka misses chip shot to win in OT (Video)

Seattle Seahawks kicker Stephen Hauschka missed a game-winning chip-shot field goal in overtime against the NFC West rival Arizona Cardinals in Week 7.

The Seattle Seahawks and the Arizona Cardinals tied embarrassingly 6-6 on Sunday Night Football in Week 7. Neither team could get into the end zone and the kicking game for both teams was all kinds of atrocious.

After Cardinals kicker Chandler Catanzaro doinked a chip-shot off the upright, Seahawks kicker Steven Hauschka did him one better. Hauschka channeled his inner Blair Walsh and pushed his kick wide left with mere seconds on the clock in overtime.

This game didn’t feature a single touchdown. The scoring lived and literally died by the teams’ kicking games. Catanzaro and Hauschka are usually reliable, especially with chip-shots. How do you miss either of these game-winning kicks?

Arizona is 3-3-1 on the year and Seattle is 4-1-1. Ties can apparently happen in the NFL. The last time there was a tie game in the NFL, the Carolina Panthers tied the Cincinnati Bengals at 37 points apiece in 2014. Both of those teams made the 2014 NFL Playoffs. At least that game had some scoring. Was that really football being played in Glendale on Sunday night?

In the last calendar year, the NFL has given us the Walsh wide left in the NFC Playoffs, the Catanzaro chip-shot cloinker, and the Hauschka “How did you miss that?”. What a time to be alive and be a fan of the NFL.

Kickers are interesting creatures. It’s not all smooth sailing with these special teamers. Sunday Night Football reminded us of two things: 1) Ties can happen in football. 2) Nothing rips your soul out of your body faster than having an unreliable kicker on your favorite football team.
