Steph Curry given 'Keep Pounding' honor by Carolina Panthers before Super Bowl
After the coin toss at every Carolina Panthers home game, an honorary drummer takes the field at Bank of America Stadium and riles up the crowd with four swings at a six-foot drum emblazoned with the phrase "Keep Pounding."
The "Keep Pounding" tradition was created as a tribute to former Panthers linebacker Sam Mills, who used the phrase to energize the team before a 2004 playoff game against Dallas. And throughout the years, several notable names have taken part, with team owner Jerry Richardson the most recent to bang the rallying drum before Carolina's 49-15 win over the Arizona Cardinals in the NFC Championship.
Mills died in 2005. His son, Sam Mills III is currently the assistant defensive line coach for the team.
Well, it appears the Keep Pounding drum has made the trip from Charlotte to Santa Clara, Calif., for Super Bowl 50. And it looks as though the Panthers will have a special guest doing the honors Sunday before the team takes on the Denver Broncos:

Sunday will be Stephen Curry's second turn as the Keep Pounding drummer this season. He also did the honors at Carolina's regular season home opener in September, a 24-17 win over the Houston Texans.
The Charlotte native and reigning NBA MVP has been vocal about his feelings for the Panthers for quite some time, going so far as to guarantee a victory last week. Curry was right about the first part of the pledge, as the Golden State Warriors beat the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday night in Oakland, the Warriors' 41st straight home win.
Now the Panthers are hoping Curry's winning ways will rub off on Carolina one last time Sunday night.
